The City of Blair, NE is hiring a Utilities Worker!
The City of Blair, NE is hiring a Utilities Worker to join our Utilities Department! This full-time, non-exempt position plays a key role in maintaining and repairing the City's water and sewer systems to ensure safe, reliable service for our community. What You’ll Do:Perform routine maintenance and service requests to support water and sewer operations.
Flush hydrants periodically to ensure proper function.
Maintain and repair water lines and sewer lines.
Perform general maintenance and repairs on departmental equipment.
Check and replace water meters in residential and commercial locations.
Turn off water service due to non‑payment as requested.
Mark utility line locations in response to utility locate requests.
Collect regular water samples from locations throughout Blair and the surrounding areas, record results, and report concerns to the water treatment plant when samples are outside guidelines.
Assist other departments as needed, including:
Participating in snow removal operations
Supporting large‑scale projects with the Streets Department (ex: water main breaks, concrete projects, etc.)
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in water/wastewater utility repair, construction, general maintenance, or a related field required (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
The selected candidate must be able to obtain:
Grade 4 Nebraska Water Operators License within the first year of employment
CDL Class A License within the first year of employment
This position is primarily performed outdoors and may involve exposure to:
Heat, cold, wetness, dust, dirt, fumes, contaminants, noise, and vibrations
Work in confined spaces
Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required
Work in an essential public service role that directly impacts the health and safety of the Blair community
