Join us as our new Safety Specialist
As our Novozymes Safety Specialist, you’ll support our biotech manufacturing site in Blair by implementing and promoting safe and healthy working conditions as well as recommending measures to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illness, and financial losses. You’ll collaborate with regional and local Novozymes OH&S specialists to implement safety programs and initiatives. Playing a role in health screening administration will also be important to ensure employee health and safety is in accordance with OSHA and other regulatory guidelines.

In Blair Operations we currently make enzymes that go into biofuels, animal health & nutrition, and more. We are starting up a new state-of-the-art production line at our site in Blair to produce Advanced Proteins Solutions for the Food and Beverage Industry.

In this role you’ll make an impact by:

  • Implementing, managing and improving safety and hygiene programs and procedures
  • Communicating incidents, trends, and findings to plant leadership and regional management as needed
  • Tracking and trending Safety Observations
  • Participating in Bio-refinery campus emergency response activities including medical first responders, hazardous materials, spill response, and confined space
  • Providing input in the engineering design process for equipment modifications or facility improvements to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and to ensure appropriate safety precautions are implemented
  • Coordinating and helping conduct safety training and education programs
  • Ensuring that appropriate records and reports are developed, maintained, and updated in accordance with federal, local, and internal requirements
  • Coordinating Safety walks to inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Recommending measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes or materials
  • Implementing a cultural change towards Safety Excellence
  • Leading site safety committee
  • Supporting local and regional crisis management and business contingency activities
  • Supporting the coordination and tracking of annual health screenings
  • Assisting with the communication of confidential medical results to employees for ZEAL and health services with the Regional Medical Program Lead
  • Coordinating with Novozymes employee managers/supervisors regarding work restrictions and potential temporary accommodations
Potentially relevant experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years of relevant experience in occupational safety/industrial hygiene in biotech, manufacturing or food processing industries
  • Familiarity with OSHA/EPA regulations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills in the Windows environment
  • Demonstrated success in attention to detail, taking initiative, collaboration, time management and displaying the needed sense of urgency
  • Ability to engage, communicate and positively influence others across the entire workforce
