Performs repairs and maintenance on Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment for Town buildings and facilities. Work is performed under the supervision of General Services Manager within the Public Works Department.
Shift: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm

- Diagnoses, repairs, and maintains existing HVAC systems.
- Installs and replaces all types of pumps and refrigeration equipment, pneumatic valves, electric valves, heat transfer equipment, ventilation, and air distribution equipment according to drawings, specifications, diagrams or other instructions
- Examines properties for load conditions and duct design
- Troubleshoots fire alarm systems and automatic HVAC control systems
- Orders and secures materials and parts for jobs as needed
- Performs preventative maintenance on all mechanical equipment; diagnoses equipment malfunctions and evaluates operating efficiency of mechanical equipment
- Operates light and medium weight vehicles; complies with all applicable health and safety regulations, policies and established work practices
- Supervises and evaluates contract HVAC work
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of HVAC equipment installation
- Knowledge of the safety precautions associated with HVAC work
- Knowledge of how entire HVAC systems function
- Ability to work under adverse conditions
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work in extreme climatic conditions
- Ability to lift up and carry a minimum of 50 pounds and walk 50 feet
- Ability to assign work and coordinate schedule, as well as evaluate contracted HVAC work
- Able to read and evaluate mechanical drawings, schematics and specifications
- Demonstrate effective organizational, communication and scheduling skills to perform routine and preventative maintenance tasks, scheduled through an electronic enterprise work order system and issued on a daily basis
- Effective communication and organizational skills to schedule and respond to HVAC performance and operational issues in Town owned buildings
- High school diploma or GED and moderate experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Preferred Licensure:
Virginia HVAC journeyman license
- A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is required
- The regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force
- Work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions, frequently requires standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and lifting and occasionally requires walking and climbing or balancing
- Work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision;
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound
- Work requires using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities
- Work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to vibration, frequently requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles and occasionally requires exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme heat (non-weather) and exposure to the risk of electrical shock
