Job SummaryThe Lead Custodian is responsible for overseeing custodial operations to ensure a clean, safe, and 5S-compliant manufacturing environment. This role provides daily direction to custodial staff, supports plant cleanliness standards, and ensures adherence to company safety, environmental, and housekeeping expectations. The Lead Custodian models ownership, teamwork, and accountability while maintaining high standards of cleanliness across production, warehouse, and office areas.
PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities Custodial & Cleaning Operations
- Perform advanced custodial duties including cleaning production areas, restrooms, offices, breakrooms, and warehouse spaces
- Ensure floors, surfaces, and high-touch areas are cleaned and sanitized according to plant standards
- Manage waste removal, recycling processes, and hazardous waste coordination (as applicable)
- Operate cleaning equipment including floor scrubbers, buffers, and other tools safely
- Lead and reinforce 5S principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) across assigned areas
- Conduct routine 5S walkthroughs and address deficiencies proactively
- Maintain visual workplace standards and ensure cleaning supply organization aligns with 5S expectations
- Partner with Operations and CI teams to support 5S audits and improvement initiatives
- Identify opportunities to improve cleanliness processes, efficiency, and standard work
- Provide daily direction and task assignments to custodial team members
- Train new custodial staff on safety, cleaning procedures, and 5S standards
- Ensure custodial schedules are executed effectively across shifts
- Communicate issuesimpactingplant cleanliness or safety to leadership
- Support special events, shutdown cleanups, and deep-clean initiatives
- Follow all plant safety, environmental, and health regulations
- Ensure proper use and storage of cleaning chemicals and supplies
- Maintain SDS compliance and chemical labeling standards
- Promote a safe working environment at all times
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- 2+ years custodial experience in industrial or manufacturing setting preferred
- Prior leadership or lead experience preferred
- Knowledge of 5S and Lean principles a plus
- Ability tooperatecustodial equipment safely
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability tolift upto 50lbs and stand/walk for extended periods
