Graduate Program Professional Coordinator
Blacksburg, Virginia – Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics
The Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics seeks a responsible and creative Professional Coordinator to administer and manage its graduate programs. The Coordinator will work independently under the supervision of the Graduate Director and Department Head.
Job Responsibilities- Recruit prospective students and advise current students on departmental programs (4+1, Online MS, Traditional MS, PhD, graduate certificates); provide academic information and initial advising; manage applications, assistantship awards and course registrations.
- Promote, recruit and advise for the 4+1 and Graduate Dual enrollment programs within the department and beyond.
- Provide graduate student support services including progress reports, plans of study, student outcome assessments, office space and HR administration of graduate student employment (assistantship agreements).
- Serve as the department’s primary point‑of‑contact with the Graduate School to ensure policy compliance and strategic alignment.
- Assist faculty in governance processes when creating new graduate courses, certificates, etc.
- Identify internal funding sources for graduate students.
- Work with the Communications Manager to develop marketing and recruitment materials (website, social media, department displays, PowerPoint, flyers, etc.) and maintain an AAEC graduate alumni database.
- Serve on various committees to support department development and improvement.
- Maintain departmental key inventory and distribute keys appropriately.
- Provide redundancy with the Assistant Director for Business Operations in covering key responsibilities (e.g., new hire paperwork, Banner transactions) when unavailable.
- Continuously enhance knowledge of relevant software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Adobe Acrobat, Banner, Hokie, SPA, Submittable, etc.).
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience or training.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to represent and market the graduate program across multiple platforms.
- Strong people skills and rapport‑building ability with students, faculty, and the campus community.
- Comfortable and respectful working in a diverse multicultural environment.
- Master’s degree in agriculture and applied economics or related discipline, with student support or advising experience.
- Familiarity with multiple campus units and Virginia Tech systems (especially Banner and Slate).
- Knowledge of university travel policies and procedures.
Pay Band: 4 – Salary: $45,000–$50,000. Overtime:
Non‑Exempt, eligible for overtime. Appointment Type:
