Kidney Specialist; Renal Dietitian

Due to a retirement, we are looking for a new band 6 Specialist Kidney Dietitian.

This is 37.5 hours post.

The post holder would be expected to manage the dietetic care for consultant led renal clinics and to provide dietetic cover to a haemodialysis satellite unit, dialysing over 100 patients per week. and therefore experience working on a dialysis unit is essential

Clinically the post holder would be expected to manage a caseload of patients with complex kidney needs - both on the dialysis unit and as outpatients as well as attending MDT treatment discussion meetings.

The post holder would be expected to clinically supervise band 5 Rotational Dietitians and students.

They would also be expected to support the Clinical Lead Dietitian to continually develop and evolve the Renal Dietetic team providing guidance, training and policies as required. They would also be expected to support the wider Dietetic team.

The successful post holder will be part of the Renal Dietetic team. The team consists of Band 7 Clinical Lead Dietitian, band 6 Specialist Dietitian and Band 5 rotational Dietitians link with the team. The team is supported by clinical support workers.

The post holder would be primarily based at Blackburn Dialysis unit but would be expected to work across all East Lancashire Dietetic localities

The Renal Dietetic  team work closely with their colleagues at Preston and will be an integral part of the MDTon the dialysis units

The Renal team is a part of the wider Dietetic Department. The Department has over 70 Staff of which 45 are Dietitians and is well supported with Dietetic Assistants, Assistant Practitioners and admin staff. The department uses the electronic patient record system EMIS for outpatients and Cerner for inpatients. The Renal Dietitians also have access to pathology and record systems from the Renal Hub at Preston

To provide cover to 4-5 renalmultidisciplinaryconsultant led clinics per week including a monthly advanced kidney care clinicforstage5patients.

To provide dietetic cover tohaemodialysis satellite unit,dialysing over 100 patients per weekandattendingmonthly multidisciplinary meetings per month atthecentre.

To provide advice to colleagues onthemanagement of patients at ELHT who have kidney disease

The department offers student training toA,Band C placements and Dietitian Apprenticeships therefore the post holder will be expected to be involved in clinical teaching and assessment of students on their placement so thereforepreviousstudent training experience is desirable.

East Lancashire is a teaching hospital so the post holder would also be expected to contribute to Medical and other health care professional training as well.

East Lancashire has good transport links to Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and beyond and we are close to the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.

• oRecent post grad Dietetic experience in a Renal specialty area for a minimum of 6 months
• oDemonstrable evidence of clinical expertise in managing complex Kidney patients
• Recent post grad experience on Dialysis Unit
• oExperience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team and wider system partners
• oExperience of undergraduate student and/or support staff supervision
• oContribution to clinical education of junior staff, students and assistants
• oExperience of clinical guidance, pathway and protocol development and implementation
• oCommittee membership

• oIT skills (competent in the use of Microsoft office applications)
• oAbility to interpret complex clinical conditions including biochemistry
• oClinically competent to give specialist kidney treatment advice to patients and their support network
• oAbility to produce Departmental and Trust guidelines/policies

• workload management skills including prioritisation and delegation
