Position Summary

As an Equipment Operator, you will perform highway, roadway, and structure maintenance. This includes operating heavy equipment to perform required maintenance duties such as snow and ice control/removal, installing, repairing, and maintaining highway signs and guardrails, and operating power tools and other equipment to complete maintenance tasks. You will also conduct building and ground maintenance, routine maintenance of roadway and radio system equipment, and minor preventive and repair maintenance on vehicles and equipment.

You will maintain necessary paperwork (time records, activity reporting, daily diary, road reports, etc.). You will receive training and perform construction project duties under close supervision. An important part of this position is maintaining a safe working environment for yourself, coworkers, and others.

Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy equipment to perform highway and roadway maintenance tasks, including snow and ice control/removal.
  • Assist in installing, repairing, and maintaining highway signs and guardrails.
  • Use power tools and other equipment to perform maintenance duties; keep roadways clear of hazards such as litter, debris, and carcasses.
  • Perform building, grounds, and routine maintenance of roadway and radio system equipment.
  • Carry out minor preventive and repair maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain paperwork including time records, activity reporting, daily diary, and road reports.
  • Work under supervision on construction project duties and participate in training.
  • Contribute to a safe working environment for all teammates and the public.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Equipment Operator II:
    Valid North Dakota Class A driver license without air brake restrictions and a cargo tank endorsement (N) by the first day of work; two years of relevant experience or one year of experience plus one season of winter operations similar to NDDOT.
  • Equipment Operator I:
    Valid North Dakota Class B driver license without air brake restrictions.
  • If a candidate with preferred experience is not found, consideration may be given to an Equipment Operator in Training. This requires a valid North Dakota Class A driver permit without air brake restrictions and a cargo tank endorsement (N) by the first day of work. The employee will have 12 months to obtain a North Dakota Class A license without air brake restrictions and a cargo-tank endorsement (N).

Requirements
  • This position requires reporting to work within 30 minutes, after hours, on weekends, and on holidays during emergency events.
  • Employment is contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process, drug test, medical screening, reference check, driver record check, and federal clearinghouse query screening.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary details:
Equipment Operator II – $4,840/month;
Equipment Operator I – $4,289/month;
Equipment Operator in Training – $4,075/month. Total rewards include a strong and competitive benefits package.
