Fire Sprinkler Apprentice – Pye‑Barker Fire & Safety

Responsibilities- Picking and sorting pipe, fittings and hardware associated with building construction trades.
- Sorting and staging fire sprinkler pipe and materials.
- Cleaning and prepping sprinkler pipe for installation.
- Hauling pipe, fittings and hardware from staging areas to installation location.
- Loading and/or unloading trucks manually or with motorized lifts (lifts not operated until properly trained).
- Measuring, cutting and grooving sprinkler pipe to specifications.
- Cutting and drilling penetrations through walls and floors for pipe installation.
- Inspecting tools, cords and ladder/lifts as needed and per foreman’s direction.
- Assisting with inventory of construction materials on job sites and office/shop areas.
- Maintaining a clean job site, sweeping, picking up loose materials, cleaning and organizing the work area, removing shavings from oilers, replacing threading machine cardboard/plywood, wiping down oil spray or other tasks as directed.
- Reading blueprints.
- Driving company vehicles (½ and ¾ ton pickups).
- Climbing ladders to assist with installation of sprinkler pipe.
- Compliance with any stipulations set by the general contractor enabling onsite installation.
- Studying and testing to meet the Apprenticeship Program requirements and time‑sensitive benchmarks.
- Assisting Project Foreman with installation of larger or specific portions of the sprinkler project.
- Possible overnight travel and extended stays out of the local area.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel and maintain a flexible work schedule.
- Team‑oriented focus.
- Lift a minimum of 50 lb.
- Work at excessive heights.
- Walk and maneuver around construction job sites and climb ladders.
- Lift, push, and pull heavy pipe daily (10–40 lb frequently and 50–75 lb occasionally).
- Bend and squat frequently and for long periods.
- Reach and perform work above shoulder level frequently and for long periods.
- Withstand occasional exposure to hot, cold, and/or inclement weather on job sites.
- Wear PPE such as steel‑toe shoes, ear plugs, safety glass, safety harnesses, and hard hats occasionally on job sites.
Salary Range: $20/hr – $25/hr (Depending on Experience)
