Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position with floating requirements and a trauma level 2 setting.
Responsibilities- Work in a 30-bed Med Surg unit within an acute care hospital
- Patient population includes post-operative patients such as joint replacement, spinal surgery, urology, abdominal surgery, bariatrics, medical overflow, and frequent use of hemovacs, JP drains, and colostomies
- Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
- Remote telemetry with monitor tech support; RN does not interpret their own strips
- Night shifts are 12 hours with every other weekend required
- Float to medical and telemetry units as needed
- Uses Epic EMR; prior Epic experience preferred but not required
- Bedside shift report is an expectation on this unit
- Charge nurse is present on both shifts, occasionally taking low acuity assignments at night
- Nurse aides/patient care techs are available with a 1:12 tech ratio
- All scrub colors are permitted
- Holiday coverage is required as needed
- First-time travelers will be considered
- A close-knit, supportive team environment is emphasized
- Requested time off must be submitted up front and not exceed 7 days per 13-week contract
- Active ND or compact RN license is required at the time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum of 2 years recent Med/Surg RN experience required
- Current BLS certification required
- Must submit two professional references: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months and one from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years
- Copy of driver’s license required for consideration
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates must not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the past year
