Job Summary

The Senior Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as an experienced caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. Demonstrates expert level experience as a certified nursing assistant and assists other staff as needed. Provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Knowledge of and delivers age‑appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per care plan.

Considered a member of the nursing team and is expected to know and will be held accountable for infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use. Often works as a support to other clinical staff in addition to assuming own responsibilities. Leads in problem solving and maintaining high accountability. Provides assistance with basic health care needs including daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support and other personal care.

Assists residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct and appropriate transfer techniques and equipment and also provides range of motion and passive exercises. Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, while creating a positive dining experience for the resident. Assists residents with meals and snacks, provides water and supplements as appropriate. Assists nurses with procedures if needed. Documents resident interactions and outcomes related to care, behavior, activity, and dietary.

Communicates residents’ changing condition to the charge nurse. Collects non‑invasive specimens and gathers vital signs. Provides housekeeping and laundry services. Supports recreational programs and encourages participation. May participate in departmental/organizational committees and task forces as needed. May be responsible for completing tasks related to the Restorative Nursing program (including documentation, scheduling and leading restorative programs).

Key Responsibilities

Provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance. Assists with basic health‑care needs and daily living activities. Supports residents with transfers, repositioning, and mobility. Documents resident interactions and care outcomes. Communicates changes in resident condition to nursing staff. Provides housekeeping and laundry support. Supports recreational and wellness programs. Participates in Restorative Nursing program tasks. Assists with nursing procedures and documentation as required.

Qualifications
  • High school graduate or GED (preferred, not required).
  • Minimum age of 16.
  • Two years of clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Annual competency testing and continuing education credits (12 hours).
  • Restorative Nursing training within 6 months may be required.
  • Registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry if applicable.
  • Possible driver’s license requirement for Sanford Category II Driver classification.
