Patient Access Representative II – Bismarck, ND (Days)

This role focuses on assisting patients from pre‑admission through discharge, providing accurate demographic data, performing financial liability collection, and coordinating medical needs.
Job SummaryPerform scheduling, registration, patient pre‑admission and admission, reception and discharge functions. Ensure complete and accurate patient demographic information. Employ proper, compliant patient liability collection techniques before, during and after the date of service. Verify insurance, benefits and eligibility, secure medical necessity checks, obtain authorizations, and coordinate post‑discharge care when required.
Responsibilities- Greet patients and provide world‑class customer service following Conifer Standards of Care.
- Complete full patient registration at the date of service.
- Explain and secure Hospital and patient legal forms (Advance Directives, Consent for Treatment, EMTA, etc.).
- Scan protected health information and file patient information packets for upcoming Hospital services.
- Assist with scheduling diagnostic procedures and provide customers with appointment instructions.
- Educate patients about financial liabilities and collect payments in accordance with financial & cash control policies.
- Perform hospital cash reconciliation and enter payments securely.
- Verify insurance coverage, obtain authorizations, and secure inpatient visit notifications to payors.
- Coordinate post‑discharge care and collaborate with internal and external clients to improve communication and productivity.
- Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute.
- Working knowledge of PC, printer and related software.
- Customer service experience and ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Understanding of third‑party payor requirements and compliance standards.
- Experience in at least two Patient Access service areas, including an Emergency Department.
- Negotiation skills for professional payment collection.
- Ability to interpret physician orders, medical terminology and insurance cards accurately.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 0–1 year of customer service experience.
- 0–1 year of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance or related area preferred.
- Some college coursework preferred.
- Ability to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting/carrying of items up to 25 lbs.
- Frequent standing, walking, and occasional wheelchair assistance.
