Environmental Services Technician - Housekeeping

Job Summary

Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas for patients/residents, visitors and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. The role includes tasks such as emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing or polishing floors, using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines. The technician must demonstrate knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment and apply this to provide a clean and sterile environment for patients/residents and facility staff.

• Clean patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
• Wear proper protective equipment following applicable guidelines.
• Keep storage, equipment, and carts well‑stocked, clean, and tidy.
• Use pagers and other technology appropriately.
• Assist in the laundry areas as appropriate.

Physical activities include considerable use of arms and legs, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials. Ability to lift and/or move up to 40‑50 lbs and push/pull variable weight limits on flat surfaces or ramps is required. The position requires remaining on feet for the majority of the shift and may involve exposure to certain noise levels from equipment.

The work schedule may vary based on patient/resident needs, and may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Preferred experience:

minimum of six months in housekeeping or commercial cleaning. Computer proficiency and prior cleaning experience is helpful. Knowledge of materials, equipment, cleaning methods, and cleaning chemicals is helpful. Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills are required. Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
