Environmental Services Technician - Housekeeping - PRN - Evenings

Overview

Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas for patients/residents, visitors and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines.

Tasks include but are not limited to emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors, and using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines. The role requires knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools and techniques in a healthcare environment to provide a clean and sterile environment for patients/residents and facility staff. The position may involve work in locations such as patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other areas to meet health standards.

Wearing the proper protective equipment following appropriate guidelines is required. Storage, equipment and carts should be kept well-stocked, clean and tidy. Environmental Services Technicians may have access to pagers and other technology and may assist in laundry areas as appropriate. Depending on location and program availability, access to technology applications may be available.

Physical activities include significant use of arms and legs and movement, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials. Ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50 lbs and push/pull varying weights on flat surfaces or ramps. The position typically requires being on the feet for most of the shift and may involve exposure to noise from equipment.

Work hours vary by location and patient/resident needs and may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.

• Perform housekeeping tasks in patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other assigned areas to maintain health standards.
• Empty waste baskets; sweep, scrub, wax, or polish floors; use brooms, mops, and powered scrubbing/waxing machines as needed.
• Maintain proper PPE and follow infection control and safety guidelines.
• Keep storage areas, equipment and carts clean and organized; utilize available technology appropriately.
• Assist in laundry areas as appropriate; may have access to technology applications depending on location.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
• Ability to use a computer; prior cleaning experience is helpful.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, equipment and cleaning chemicals is helpful.
• Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills are required.
• Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
