Salary: $120,000 - $150,000 per year

The Director of Commodity Accounting will own and lead all commodity accounting and financial close activities for a multi-state agricultural merchandising business. This role combines technical accounting, commodity P&L oversight, regulatory compliance, and process improvement. The position requires deep experience in grain or agricultural commodity accounting, including licensing, bonding, and mark-to-market valuation.
This is a newly created role with significant autonomy and the opportunity to build scalable accounting processes as the business grows.
Key Responsibilities Commodity Accounting & Close- Own month-end and year-end financial close for commodity operations
- Lead commodity P&L reporting and analysis across products and regions
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analyses
- Ensure contracts, pricing, and commodity positions are accurately recorded for close
- Maintain grain buyer licenses across operating states
- Manage bonding requirements, renewals, and reporting
- Coordinate state grain audits and regulatory reporting
- Ensure compliance with multi-state agricultural regulations
- Support annual financial audits and prepare required schedules
- Prepare regulatory filings and other required financial reports
- Strengthen internal controls and accounting processes
- Assess commodity accounting workflows and implement improvements
Establish scalable procedures to support growth - Partner with merchandising and operations teams on financial insights
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3+ years commodity or agricultural accounting experience (5+ preferred)
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and commodity accounting principles
- Experience with commodity P&L, contracts, and pricing mechanics
- Knowledge of grain licensing, bonding, and regulatory requirements
- Experience leading financial close and audit support
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Grain merchandising, cooperative, or agricultural trading environment
- Mark-to-market valuation and hedging accounting
- Multi-state agricultural operations
