The Assistant Chief Financial Officer provides day-to-day operational leadership for the Financial Management Division, overseeing accounting, budgeting, and procurement functions. This role supports a collaborative and inclusive team culture by setting clear expectations, encouraging open communication, and providing ongoing coaching and development for staff. You'll serve as the Chief Financial Officer in the CFO's absence and play an active role in strategic planning, budgeting, revenue forecasting, cash management, and legislative activities.
This position partners closely with leadership and external stakeholders to ensure strong financial stewardship and compliance.
- Lead the Financial Management Division by setting goals, aligning work with the agency's strategic plan, and supporting staff training and professional development
- Foster open, collaborative communication across the division
- Direct agency accounting activities and ensure compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations
- Oversee agency procurement and budgeting functions, including making final decisions on non-routine procurement matters
- Serve as Chief Financial Officer in the CFO's absence
- Support legislative activities, including preparing testimony and representing the department at legislative hearings
- Develop Emergency Commission requests and participate in Emergency Commission and Legislative Budget Section hearings
- Coordinate and manage relationships with external entities reviewing or examining the agency's financial activities
To succeed in this role, you'll be a confident leader and problem solver with strong critical thinking and collaboration skills. You're able to guide a finance team, support sound decision-making, and help drive budget and financial management strategies.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or a closely related field.
- Six years of professional accounting experience, including at least three years in a supervisory role.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification
- Knowledge of principles, practices, and standards to ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, and GAGAS.
