Responsibilities

As our new team member, you will be responsible for conducting field inspections for all types of construction projects, ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and contract documents. You'll get to work with cutting‑edge equipment like Robotic Total Station GPS, drones, and use computer aided drafting software such as Micro Station to measure and calculate quantities and create reports and plan sheets for use on construction projects.

You'll also perform tests on road and bridge building materials for all types of projects to ensure that they meet NDDOT specifications. You'll assist project engineers with checking and organizing project final records and with district design work that requires the use of Micro Station. All necessary training and support will be provided to excel in these tasks.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications for Engineering Technician IV:
    • At least six years of work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed.
    • College-level coursework and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
    • Materials testing is preferred.
  • Minimum Qualifications for Engineering Technician III:
    • At least four years of work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed.
    • College-level coursework and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
    • Materials testing is preferred.
  • Minimum Qualifications for Engineering Technician II:
    • At least two years of work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed.
    • College-level coursework and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
    • Materials testing is preferred.
  • Minimum Qualifications for Engineering Technician I:
    • A high school diploma or GED equivalent and a basic understanding of the concepts needed for this type of work.
  • Physical and Other Requirements:
    • Work in all types of weather on a variety of uneven or slippery surfaces.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and carry several items with a total weight of 50 pounds.
    • Valid North Dakota Class D driver’s license required to travel to project locations.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
