Role Overview
This is a key senior role responsible for the full management of the Transport Department, with absolute ownership of regulatory compliance, fleet performance, and service delivery across the business.
The Transport Manager will ensure a fit-for-purpose, fully compliant fleet spanning low loaders, hook loaders, tippers, vans, and company vehicles, while embedding a strong culture around driver behaviour, road risk, and safety. The role carries responsibility for Operator Licence compliance, fleet strategy, and the effective management of outsourced service providers.
Key Responsibilities
Full responsibility for Operator Licence compliance, ensuring standards are met to the satisfaction of the Office of the Traffic Commissioner and DVSA
Accurate management of fleet and business data held via (url removed) systems
Ownership and enforcement of transport policies, procedures, and legislative compliance across the business
Proactive monitoring of regulatory changes and advising the wider business on legislative updates
Management of outsourced service providers and third-party suppliers
Oversight of fleet maintenance, servicing schedules, inspections, LOLER testing, and insurance compliance
Ensuring all vehicles and equipment are maintained in a safe, roadworthy, and compliant condition
Management of tachograph systems, calibration schedules, and analysis via approved software
Production of monthly reports covering drivers’ hours, tachograph data, and compliance trends
Supporting managers and employees with transport, fleet, and compliance guidance
Driving continuous improvement in driver standards, safety culture, and performance
Leading driver communication through meetings, briefings, toolbox talks, and safety bulletins
Managing complaints and incidents, ensuring investigations and corrective actions are completed promptly
Keeping Directors and Senior Management fully informed of risks, issues, and required actions
Qualifications & Experience
CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) – essential
Minimum 3 years’ experience operating as a Transport Manager in a comparable environment
Strong technical understanding of light and heavy vehicles
Solid knowledge of Road Transport Law, Operator Licence requirements, and DVSA standards
Commercially aware with the ability to balance compliance and operational efficiency
Confident communicator, comfortable engaging at all levels across the business
Good working knowledge of Health & Safety regulations
Experience managing Driver CPC and ongoing training requirements
