Transport Manager - Permanent

Experience in Cross Boarder Freight in to the EU Required for this role.

Locations:
Birmingham, B26 Area

Pay rates: £45,000 - £53,000 Per Year dependent on experience.

Transport Manager Job role & Shift pattern:

• Responsible for Cross Boarder Freight in to the EU - EXPERIENCE IN THIS AREA IS REQUIRED.

• Ensure optimum efficiency / effectiveness of overall transport operations

• Ensure all vehicles are maintained in accordance with relevant legislation

• Ensure all VOSA records are accurately kept

• Keep abreast of all current and pending legislation relevant to this position

• Driver Management – first point of contact

• Ensure a safe working environment

• Ensure all vehicles and drivers are correctly noted on insurance schedule

• Accident claims – Proactively manage road traffic accidents

• Ensure that all Health and Safety policies and procedures are complied with within own area of control

• Control cost of all aspects of day-to-day transport operations to ensure optimum profit levels

• Control and manage costs within the garage / mechanic’s area

• Analyse statistical information and adopt relevant practices as a result

• Adopt effective resource management in relation to staff/vehicles/transport services/fuel

• Manage and direct all drivers and other staff associated with the transport operation including adherence to WTD

• Ensure delivery of excellent customer service and maintain excellent relationships both internal and external

• Manage the transport operations team ensuring effective leadership and development of employees to meet business requirements

• Improve General performance standards and implement best practice initiatives

• Maintain flexible working hours to ensure smooth running of 24-hour operation

• Implement / monitor effective / efficient sortation procedures and processes to ensure service standards are met

• Overseeing the transport desk / helping to identify bulk deliveries and groupage runs

• Ensure that the necessary people, equipment, processes and support are in place to enable the delivery of service levels

• Proactively manage risk compliance with all company policies including Health & Safety as well as operating within legal and regulatory requirements such as the Working Time
Directive, Road Traffic Acts and vehicle safety.  Take immediate and appropriate action when required

• Assist General Manager with recruitment of individuals to the department.

• Complete annual performance review (appraisal).  Be ready to take action where there is persistent under-performance.

• Command respect from the staff team through knowledge, experience and have a clear and supportive management style

• Monitor deadlines regarding deliveries ensuring remedial action is taken immediately where necessary

• Ensure that the interior and exterior of the site portrays a professional Company image and safe environment for employees and visitors to site

• Always use appropriate language when speaking to other workers

• In conjunction with the General Manager manage the ‘people’ issues at the site, to include holiday planning, absence management (in line with the Company Absence Management Procedure) return to work interviews day-to-day performance issues.  Selection and Recruitment in line with Company guidelines and introduce and adhere to robust induction processes.

• Maintain accurate attendance and performance records for all staff

• Ensure accurate and timely capture of all transport data

• Coach, develop and train all staff associated with the transport operation ensuring that the team is provided with clear performance standards and is motivated to meet set targets

Transport Manager Hours of work & Shift Pattern

• Monday to Friday

• 08:00 - 17:00.

What we are looking for in a Transport Manager:

• Transport Management CPC.

• Knowledge/Experience in cross boarder freight.

• Must have excellent communication skills.

• Must work well with others and as an individual.

• Minimum 2 years transport Management Experience.
