3 months contract with a Local Authority

Job Summary
  • An experienced Youth Justice Officer is required to join a local authority youth justice team on a temporary basis to cover maternity/paternity leave.
  • The successful candidate will hold full case management responsibilities, working with young people across the borough to reduce offending and reoffending.
  • Applicants from a range of professional backgrounds will be considered, including qualified social workers, probation officers, and youth workers with relevant youth justice experienceियल.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
  • Carry out full case management for young people involved with the youth justice service.
  • Undertake assessments using ASSET+ and the Centre for Prevention and Diversion Assessment Tool (PDAT).
  • Develop and implement tailored intervention plans to address offending behaviour.
  • Prepare high‑quality reports for court, including Pre‑Sentence Reports and Referral Order Reports.
  • Attend and represent the service in Youth Court and contribute to court processes as required.
  • Participate in duty rotas and respond to urgent or unscheduled work.
  • Contribute to Referral Order Panels and Joint Decision‑Making Panels, involving multi‑agency collaboration.
  • Deliver structured interventions and support in line with statutory requirements and best practice.
  • Build constructive relationships with young people and families to support positive outcomes.
  • Liaise with internal teams, external agencies and community organisations.
Skills/Experience
  • Experience working in a youth justice or youth offending service.
  • Familiarity with ASSET+, PDAT and case management systems.
  • Strong understanding of youth justice processes, court protocols and diversionary work.
  • Proven ability to produce high‑quality written reports for courts and panels.
  • Confidence in multi‑agency working and engaging with children and young people.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and handle a complex caseload under pressure.
Additional Information
  • Criminology or relevant degree.
  • Hours:

    37 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 09:00‑17:30).
