About this jobEquans is looking for a Water Technician to join our team based at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) in Smethwick on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week, offering a competitive salary and benefits package.
Responsibilities- Assist the Water Manager in delivering high-quality maintenance service to all domestic water systems across the estate.
- Lead installation work for minor upgrading and adaptation projects.
- Act as Deputy Responsible Person (Water) and Competent Person (Water).
- Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) activities for all water systems and plant.
- Respond to reactive jobs, diagnose, fault‑find and repair complex mechanical systems in accordance with relevant standards, operational procedures, legislation and guidance, with a focus on domestic water systems.
- Ensure full requirements of the written scheme for water are delivered.
- Assist in reviewing and updating COMPASS to maintain a comprehensive site logbook recording all activities and status of the water services.
- Obtain Competent Person status following training for specialised ventilation systems, complex water systems and medical gas installations.
- Perform PPM tasks across site on various aspects of building services in line with the PPM programme and personal competence and training.

- City and Guilds or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline.
- Experience with in a maintenance environment, especially on complex domestic water systems.
- Good knowledge and understanding of a range of complex mechanical systems, including ventilation, pumps, compressors, boilers, medical gases, heating systems, domestic hot and cold-water systems.
- Post‑apprenticeship experience within a maintenance environment.
- Recognised apprenticeship in relevant engineering discipline to City & Guilds level.
- Experience with in a healthcare maintenance environment (desirable).
- Competent Person / Authorised Person experience with ventilation and/or pressure systems (desirable).
- Ability to pass a DBS Standard check.
- Must have evidence of the right to work in the UK.
- Roles may require Disclosure & Barring Service checks.
