We are seeking an experienced and professional Security Supervisor to lead the day-to-day operations of our campus security team. This role combines operational duties with team supervision, ensuring a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure the safety and security of all University users
- Supervise and support security staff
- Respond to emergencies and alarm activations
- Conduct physical internal and external patrols
- Manage access control, s, and car park control
- Operate CCTV and other security systems
- Complete accurate reports and maintain records
- Carry out lock/unlock procedures and key control
- Provide First Aid and Mental Health First Aid support
- Maintain compliance with relevant legislation and University policies
Core hours are Monday to Friday, with flexibility required. The role involves regular foot patrols indoors and outdoors. Workwear is provided.
Essential Requirements- Experience as a security professional
- GCSE Grade C (or equivalent), including English
- SIA Security Guarding or Door Supervision licence (or willingness to obtain within three months, during probation period)
- Strong communication and report-writing skills in English
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Good conflict management skills
- Working knowledge of GDPR and relevant security legislation
- Excellent IT proficiency (MS Office)
- Supervisory experience
- NVQ Level 2 in Safety, Security and Loss Prevention
- SIA CCTV licence and Control Room experience
- First Aid at Work qualification
- Conflict Management/Physical Intervention training
- Experience investigating incidents
- Full, clean UK Driving Licence

The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to enter the LGPS scheme will be able to do so and will be employed by Birmingham City University directly.
