Today terrorism is a constant threat within the United Kingdom. By joining Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) West Midlands, you can directly contribute to keeping the UK safe and help us tackle the threat.

Based at Birmingham International Airport, the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit (CTPWM) Borders Policing team work in partnership with other border law enforcement and intelligence agencies to support the fight against terrorism by gathering intelligence and reporting on individuals and freight entering and leaving the country to identify potential threats to national security.

The role

Under the supervision of the Borders Duty Sergeant, you will be part of the administrative and intelligence function within the Counter Terrorism Borders Policing (CTBP) team, producing high quality research products and identifying intelligence opportunities from a variety of sources. You'll ensure that all information is checked, verified and dealt with in accordance with set guidelines. Using intelligence systems to research persons of interest to CTP, West Midlands Police and other agencies and actively participating in both local and national CT operations.

responsibilities
  • You’ll maintain an awareness of current threat, risk and harm at CTBP and respond as directed in line with those priorities and national requirements.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with colleagues and partners, supporting information sharing and collaborative working.
  • Providing intelligence support to CTBP staff in relation to Schedule 7 TACT 2000 and other examinations.
  • Acting as a professional and efficient initial point of contact for visitors and callers to CTBP whilst following security protocols.
  • Carrying out administrative functions within the department including and not limited to call handling, radio liaison, internal and external mail.
  • To be the key holder for the secure safe maintaining all relevant records.
  • Undertaking the use of CCTV for the department and other agencies as per current legislation and force policies.
  • Preparing daily reports and where appropriate recommending improvements.
  • Providing guidance and assistance in the use of CTP systems, protocols and procedures to other team members.
  • You’ll be proficient in the use of National CTBP systems, ensuring accuracy, oversight and compliance.
Skills and competencies Essential
  • Evidence of Research skills.
  • Use of Computers to conduct systems research and trace work, including previous usage of windows-based software, databases and any other formalised records system.
  • Demonstrated ability to martial, collate and confirm information in order to create a formal product (i.e. report or assessment).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with experience of working with stakeholders and partner agencies.
  • Experience of working both within a team, and on own initiative - particularly when managing and prioritising allotted duties.
Desirable
  • Experience of working in an intelligence environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, guidelines, processes and procedures (i.e. Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act, Directed Surveillance Authority, Open Source Centre guidelines).
  • Evidence of utilisation of technical equipment e.g. CCTV.
  • Knowledge of current Police Intelligence Systems.
Additional information

You’ll work a 3x3x3 shift pattern to include weekend working. 3 Early shifts 07:00 - 15:00. 3 Late shifts 14:00-23:30. Before 3 Rest days.

You will need to undergo additional security clearance checks, with the offer of employment being conditional on obtaining all of the necessary security clearances.
