The Safeguarding Nurse will demonstrate a sound understanding of the needs and risks affecting vulnerable adults, children, and families. Acting as a visible role model, the post holder will provide clinical support, expert advice, and practical guidance to wards and departments across the Trust, under the supervision of the Named Nurse for Safeguarding, and in accordance with national and local safeguarding guidance.
This is a developmental role for a nurse with some safeguarding experience. The post holder will be supported by senior members of the safeguarding team to develop comprehensive knowledge and skills across all aspects of safeguarding practice.
The role requires the provision of clinical expertise and professional advice, with a strong working knowledge of safeguarding and child protection legislation and guidance, including the Children Act (2004), Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023), the Mental Capacity Act (2005), Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, the Domestic Abuse Act (2021), and the Care Act (2014). The post holder will also contribute to the planning and delivery of safeguarding training across the Trust.
The post holder must be a registered nurse with recent clinical experience, including some experience relevant to safeguarding, and a clear record of continuing professional development.
Main duties of the jobTo work as part of the Safeguarding Team and support the named nurse, safeguarding lead and head of safeguarding.
Act as a resource and provide support to wards and clinical areas on safeguarding patients by:
- Ensuring adherence to Trust policies, procedures and guidelines
- Maintain accurate and confidential records
- Offer expertise and advice to multidisciplinary team members including supervision
- Work with Clinicians in the Trust to promote Safeguarding and to identify relevant cases.
Independently assess, implement and evaluate patients with complex safeguarding needs, be able to complete DoLs processes, Early Help assessments, MARAC and other multi - agency referrals.

Person Specification Qualification and Training- Current valid NMC registration
-Registered Nurse - Diploma /degree level nursing qualification
- Completion of Level 3 Safeguarding Training and additional safeguarding training
- Evidence of Continued Professional Development.
- Recent Safeguarding external training
- Recognised teaching qualification.
