We’re partnering with a leading real estate specialist on an opportunity to shape the future of one of Birmingham’s most iconic destinations (we know you'll guess who it is). This is a high-impact, autonomous role for a Marketing & Placemaking Manager who knows how to blend brand, culture, digital and real-world experiences to drive footfall and fame.
The Role:Think of this position as being the conductor of the orchestra
. You’ll know when to bring people in, how to brief them brilliantly, and when to improvise to connect with the audience.
Your mission: localise a national strategy using brand, digital and place as your core pillars — moving beyond traditional retail marketing to create a destination people genuinely want to be part of.
- Own and deliver the local marketing & placemaking strategy
, aligned to national direction - Create a year‑round calendar of standout events and campaigns that drive footfall, fans and commercial return
- Generate bold, culturally relevant stories that perform across social, digital and physical spaces
- Build partnerships with cultural, community and commercial collaborators
- Maximise value through sponsor ships, partnerships and income‑generating opportunities
- Manage budgets, agencies and performance reporting with a sharp ROI focus
- Work closely with occupiers, internal commercial teams and operations to ensure activity is impactful, safe and compliant
- Typically operating at Senior Account Manager or Account Director level within an agency (social, PR or integrated), or already working client‑side in placemaking, destinations or mixed‑use environments
- Strong experience localising national strategies
- Confidence briefing and managing agencies (without needing line management)
- A deep understanding of how social and digital drive real‑world behaviour
, not just clicks - Culture awareness — especially of Birmingham’s energy, communities and popular culture
- The ability to balance creative instinct with analytical thinking
- Gravitas to present to and influence senior stakeholders
- Predominantly office‑based (5 days officially, though most similar roles flex to 1 day WFH)
- A genuinely exciting, visible role at the heart of Birmingham
