About the Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Chargehand professional to step into a busy production facility manufacturing building materials. This role will see you leading a team of engineers on shift, ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance and reliability of heavy plant and production machinery. You will play a key part in minimising downtime, driving safety standards and supporting continuous improvement across site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervising and coordinating day-to-day mechanical maintenance activities within a production environment
  • Leading and supporting a team of engineers and contractors on shift
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive breakdown repairs
  • Fault finding on production machinery, conveyors, motors, gearboxes, pumps and hydraulic systems
  • Ensuring minimal disruption to production through efficient response to breakdowns
  • Maintaining high health & safety standards and ensuring team compliance
  • Supporting maintenance planning and scheduling
  • Assisting with plant upgrades, installations and continuous improvement projects
  • Completing maintenance documentation and reporting to management
What We're Looking For
  • Proven experience in a mechanical maintenance role within a production or manufacturing facility
  • Strong mechanical bias with experience working on heavy plant or automated production equipment
  • Previous supervisory or team leader experience
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving capability
  • Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings and rotating equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Good understanding of health & safety regulations
  • Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
  • Proactive, hands‑on approach with strong communication and leadership skills
