Shifts:
Monday-Friday, rotating 06:00-14:00 and 14:00-22:00
Pay: £17.07 per hour (inclusive of shift allowance)
About the Role
An established heavy‑engineering manufacturer is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer to join its modern machine shop. The business operates a full in‑house capability from forging and heat treatment through to finish machining, working on large, high‑integrity components for critical industrial sectors.
This role would suit someone with strong CNC programming and setting experience on large components, who is comfortable working to tight tolerances in a safety‑critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
Create, edit and optimise CNC programs for turning, milling and/or boring operations on large components
Program, set and prove out jobs from engineering drawings and technical specifications
Select appropriate tooling, work holding, fixtures and cutting parameters
Carry out first‑off inspections, in‑process checks and complete production documentation
Optimise machining processes to improve cycle times, tool life and overall efficiency
Work closely with engineering, quality and production teams to achieve right‑first‑time manufacture
Maintain high standards of housekeeping, machine care and compliance with health & safety requirements
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
Proven CNC programming experience within a machining or heavy‑engineering environment
Experience working with large components and/or complex, high‑value parts
Strong understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances and GD&T
Hands‑on experience with CNC turning, milling or boring machines
Confidence carrying out dimensional inspection using precision measuring equipment
Ability to work rotating shifts in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment Desirable
Experience with Fanuc or Heidenhain controls
CAD/CAM programming experience
Knowledge of 3‑axis and/or 5‑axis machining
Background in forged, cast or heavy steel components
Qualifications
Time‑served apprenticeship in CNC Machining or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent)
NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds / HNC preferred
