Join One Advanced Director of Engineering – Education

Location: (Birmingham / Hybrid / Remote) - 2 day's in the office per month

About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Engineering (Education) to join us  this senior leadership role, you will lead the engineering strategy that underpins our education-focused technology solutions, leveraging modern platforms and emerging technologies to transform educational experiences and outcomes.

You will bring deep expertise in engineering leadership, education technologies, and scalable SaaS delivery, combined with a strong passion for using technology to drive meaningful impact across the education sector. This role partners closely with executive leadership, educators, and external stakeholders to deliver secure, innovative, and high-quality solutions.

What You Will Do
  • Develop and execute a strategic engineering roadmap for education-focused initiatives, aligned with organizational objectives and industry best practices.

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence.

  • Design and architect scalable, secure, and resilient technology platforms tailored to the needs of educational institutions and learners.

  • Collaborate closely with educators, product leaders, and stakeholders to translate educational needs into effective technology solutions.

  • Establish and enforce best practices for software engineering, architecture, quality assurance, and operational reliability.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant education regulations, data protection standards, and security requirements.

  • Partner with executive leadership to align engineering initiatives with broader business goals and long-term strategy.

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership, promoting agile development methodologies and continuous improvement.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with educational institutions, technology partners, and industry experts.

  • Monitor emerging technologies, including AI-driven engineering workflows, and assess their application to enhance educational delivery, operational efficiency, and lifelong learning.

What You Will Have
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Education, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in software engineering and technology leadership, with a strong focus on education technologies.

  • Demonstrated success leading and scaling engineering teams in fast-paced, high-growth environments.

  • Deep understanding of modern education platforms, digital learning ecosystems, and SaaS product delivery.

  • Proven expertise in designing secure, scalable, and user-centric systems and applications.

  • Hands-on experience applying AI within engineering workflows and product development.

  • Strong strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement, and executive communication skills.
