About the Role We are recruiting on behalf of a market‑leading heavy engineering manufacturer based in Birmingham. Due to continued investment and growth, our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join their established maintenance team.
This is a day‑shift role with occasional 4 on / 4 off shift cover to support holidays and absence. The position offers long‑term stability, exposure to large‑scale industrial plant, and the opportunity to be involved in continuous improvement and capital engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out hands‑on mechanical maintenance across heavy industrial production lines and associated plant
- Lead and support TPM and PPM activities to improve reliability and reduce downtime
- Act as the main maintenance point of contact for production and contractor coordination
- Respond to breakdowns with effective fault‑finding and root cause analysis
- Drive equipment reliability improvements and optimisation initiatives
- Work closely with production and engineering teams across the site
- Manage and maintain spare parts inventory
- Support machinery upgrades, installations, and plant expansion projects
- Provide guidance and mentoring to apprentices and junior engineers
- Ensure strict adherence to Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) standards and risk assessments
- Mechanical Engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds / BTEC – HNC advantageous)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a medium or heavy industrial maintenance environment
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Hydraulics and pneumatics
- Fluid power systems
- Welding and fabrication
- Machine shop practices
- Confident reading mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics
- Experience with annealing, induction furnaces, casting, or rolling equipment is highly desirable
- Strong communication, problem‑solving, and organisational skills
- Able to work independently and provide 4 on / 4 off shift cover when required
Primary:
Day Shift - Monday to Friday (7:00am - 3:30pm)
Flexibility:
Occasional 4 on / 4 off shift cover for holidays and absence
