Location - Birmingham
Base salary: £54,878 pa to £64,562 pa depending on skills and experience. Project Manager – Rail Systems:
As the Project Manager for Rail Systems delivery project(s) at HS2 you will be responsible for the successful delivery of the contract(s) to time, budget, scope and quality. You will manage the conclusion of the procurement process, preparation for contract award and delivery of the Phase One and 2a works. You will be joining HS2 at an exciting time as we move through the final stages of procurement and into contract award.
The scope of the contracts will bring innovative technology to the UK railway and support delivery of this transformational project.
About The Role
The project will involve delivering Rail Systems to time, budget, scope and quality and coordinating with procurement and construction activities to support contract award and completion of Phase One and 2a works.
Responsibilities- Provide project management support to one or more of the Rail Systems Senior Project Managers / Heads of Delivery for their allocated project.
- Support the successful delivery of Rail Systems objectives and outcomes.
- Interface with relevant Railway Systems stakeholders for the project as required.
- Monitor changes from Construction/Delivery teams, including scope and cost changes, escalating issues as required.
- Support robust reporting on project progress to the Senior Project Manager, Head of Delivery and programme forums.
- Support the development, maintenance and analysis of project plans to identify and mitigate delivery risks.
- Identify and implement mitigating actions to address milestone slippages, escalating as needed.
- Collaborate within the HS2 team, coordinating with matrixed team members, agency staff or consultants to deliver requirements to the agreed schedule.
- Manage package contractors to ensure delivery to time, budget, scope and quality.
- Ensure integration with other related HS2 and Network Rail projects.
- Undertake duties of the Project Manager under an NEC3 contract.
- Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all work and comply with EDI policies and procedures.
- Project management – ability to develop, plan and integrate projects to optimise target costs and project benefits.
- Problem solving – identifying problems, evaluating options and implementing solutions across multiple work streams with competing demands.
- Decision quality – gathering and synthesising information to support option evaluation and judgements.
- Clear direction – analysing inputs, defining strategies and documenting rationales.
- Influencing and negotiating skills – with internal functions and external partners.
- Project management knowledge aligned to the level of APM Project Manager.
- Understanding of risk identification and management.
- Understanding of project schedule management, dependencies and risk assessment.
- Understanding of complexities delivering projects with multiple interfaces.
- Degree level qualification or equivalent NVQ in project management, engineering, commercial management or the equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of railway systems and/or telecommunications would be advantageous.
- Experience of managing high value, complex projects.
- Experience of the project lifecycle from pre-contract award through to design, installation, testing and commissioning.
- Experience of working across functions and disciplines to deliver objectives.
- Experience of managing people directly and in a matrix environment.
- Experience of managing delivery through external contractors and/or suppliers.
