I'm working with a highly regarded, multi-disciplinary consultancy seeking a Senior Director within its Transport Planning and Development Planning leadership team in Birmingham. This is a strategic, senior leadership appointment, reflecting both the scale and complexity of the regional workload and the firm's longer-term growth ambitions.
This role offers a discreet, high-profile opportunity to operate at the top of the Transport Planning function, providing strategic direction, influencing client relationships, and shaping the future of the practice in the region. You will work collaboratively with other senior leaders across the UK, contributing to multi-regional projects and sharing expertise across offices.
The RoleThis appointment combines senior technical oversight, strategic leadership, and commercial influence. You will provide direction across a portfolio of major development-led transport planning projects, while supporting team development, client engagement, and growth initiatives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Senior technical and strategic oversight of complex transport planning commissions
- Leadership input across major multi-sector development projects (residential, commercial, education, retail, leisure, energy)
- Acting as a trusted advisor to clients, developers, and planning authorities
- Supporting and mentoring senior members of the transport planning team
- Contributing to business planning, growth strategy, and high-level work-winning initiatives
- Collaborating with Transport Planning leaders across other UK offices on national projects
- Established senior leader within development-related transport planning
- Strong track record operating at Director or Senior Director level in consultancy
- Deep understanding of the UK planning system and major development processes
- Credibility with clients, local authorities, and internal leadership teams
- Commercially astute, with experience contributing to sustained business growth
- Comfortable operating in a discreet, collaborative, and influential capacity
