Giving Generosity Support Officer
Position held by the Birmingham Diocesan Board of Finance (Church of England Birmingham), supporting the new Head of Generosity and the Generosity team in delivering a financial sustainability strategy for 146 parishes.

Church of England Birmingham (CofEB) is on a journey of growing churches at the heart of every community. Financially we have been operating at a deficit for several years and a partnership with the Diocese’s Investment Programme allows us to reallocate income and build a financially sustainable platform over the next five years. The focus is on increasing the Common Fund returns and deepening relationships with each parish through conversation rather than correspondence.
Key Responsibilities- Act as the primary point of contact for parishes and other DBF teams, managing office‑based team activities.
- Develop strong relationships with parishes and key stakeholders to facilitate meetings and support generative initiatives.
- Serve as the first point of contact when parishes have questions about giving and generosity.
- Manage processes and activities that enable the project to function, such as a scheme for loaning contact‑giving devices.
- Support the creation of resources and communication pieces, keeping external and internal streams up to date.
- Encourage and assist parishes in implementing the Parish Giving Scheme and contactless giving mechanisms.
- Support scheduling and delivery of training for clergy, treasurers and others.
- Collate and report data to demonstrate team progress.
- Undertake resource projects and respond to emerging needs and opportunities.
- Ensure a regular flow of team meetings and communication, including wellbeing activities in line with CofEB rhythms.
- Understanding of church governance structures and financial operations.
- Knowledge of generosity principles and Christian stewardship.
- Experience working in a sensitive environment and handling confidential matters with tact and diplomacy.
- Experience supporting a team and managing required processes.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with project‑management software advantageous.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to handle queries from varied audiences.
- Discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to work independently and contribute to team success.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities.
- Experience of a change programme or project management advantageous.
- Understanding and sympathy with our Christian ethos and values.
Post held for a fixed term ending on 2nd November 2030, subject to funding.
Salary: £28,000 plus membership of the Church Worker’s Pension Scheme with 12% employer contribution. Discussion available for ordained candidates transitioning out of parish ministry.
Hours:
Full‑time 35 hours (5 days) per week. Weekend and evening work may be required; flexible working arrangements considered.
Holidays: 5 weeks per year plus bank holidays and 3 discretionary days between Christmas and New Year.
