The Role
The team are now seeking a Childcare Solicitor to join the Birmingham office. The position involves handling care proceedings work that has traditionally been managed from other offices but now requires local expertise due to increasing demand in Birmingham.
You will:
- Manage your own caseload of public law children matters (care work)
- Represent clients in court proceedings
- Engage in business development activities to build the local presence
- Contribute to the team's reputation for legal excellence
While hybrid working is available (typically three days per week in the office), there is flexibility depending on experience, particularly for highly experienced Children Panel members who may be predominantly court-based.
This Childcare Solicitor role will require you to:
- Manage a caseload of care proceedings/public law children matters
- Represent children, parents and guardians at court hearings
- Participate in business development activities to strengthen the local presence
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across offices
- Liaise with administrative support teams as required
- Ensure accurate legal aid applications (billing handled by admin team)
- Maintain high standards of client care and professional conduct
About You
- 4+ years' PQE as a Solicitor or equivalent experience in care proceedings / public law children work
- Ideally Children Panel accredited, or a strong ambition to achieve accreditation
- Experience representing clients at court hearings (on-your-feet advocacy)
- Collaborative team player
- Open to learning from others; self-aware about gaps in knowledge or experience
- Ability to self-generate some work through reputation/business development, though not required to bring an existing client following
