Job Description

We are looking to recruit an adaptable User Centred Design Consultant who can work effectively in multidisciplinary, agile teams to deliver excellent results for Version 1’s customers in the public and private sector. You will be experienced in working with users and stakeholders to determine the best way to design products and services, considering both the end‑to‑end journey and individual design elements.

Your portfolio will demonstrate your ability to understand users and design to meet their needs, work to relevant design standards and communicate your design decisions effectively.

Full German speaking skill is required as the role works closely with an international client based in Germany.

Responsibilities
  • Work in multidisciplinary, agile teams to deliver results for public and private sector customers.
  • Design products and services, considering the end‑to‑end user journey and individual design elements.
  • Conduct user and stakeholder research, collaborate with user researchers, and test designs for usability and accessibility.
  • Create and iterate prototypes of varying fidelity using appropriate tools.
  • Evaluate concepts and prototypes and explain them to stakeholders.
  • Apply and adapt design patterns; participate in wider design community.
  • Apply principles of accessible/inclusive design and evaluate against accessibility standards.
  • Communicate design process and decisions to internal colleagues and customers, fostering confidence.
  • Manage stakeholders, knowing when to seek support and when to raise issues.
Qualifications
  • Design Thinking
    • Strong understanding of design thinking; apply frameworks and approaches appropriate to the project.
  • Evidence‑based Design
    • Seek to test assumptions to ensure that designs are the simplest feasible approach to solving problems for users.
  • Focus on Users and Their Needs
    • Undertake basic user research activity and collaborate with researchers to understand users and test designs for usability and accessibility.
    • Design to meet a wide range of user needs and explain constraints on designs.
  • Concepts and Prototyping
    • Create and iterate a variety of prototypes, selecting appropriate fidelity and tools.
    • Evaluate concepts and prototypes and explain them to stakeholders and team members.
    • Select, apply, and adapt appropriate design patterns and participate in wider design community discussions.
  • Accessible / Inclusive Design Experience
    • Understand key principles and considerations for accessible/inclusive design and apply them in designs.
    • Evaluate designs against appropriate accessibility standards.
  • Design Standards Knowledge
    • Understand common design standards and demonstrate compliance with appropriate standards for the sector or project.
  • Consultancy Skills
    • Communicate design process and decisions effectively to gain confidence of colleagues and customers.
    • Manage stakeholders, know when to seek support or raise issues.
  • Agile Working in Multidisciplinary Teams
    • Align design practice to agile workflows across all stages of development lifecycle.
    • Work in an open, iterative and collaborative way in a multidisciplinary team.
