BackgroundThe IT Services team ensures that the University community has access to responsive, secure, and accessible systems and support. We are building a culture of innovation, collaboration, and inclusion, delivering student, staff, and research digital services.
Role SummaryThe Senior Developer will design, develop, test, and maintain technical solutions across the University’s systems and applications. The role involves collaborating with cross‑functional teams, troubleshooting complex technical challenges, delivering scalable and secure software products, leading code reviews, mentoring junior developers, and driving innovation within IT.
Main Duties / Responsibilities- Design and develop full‑stack solutions, including REST APIs, modern front‑end frameworks, and web services.
- Create architectural designs for SharePoint, Word Press, Azure, and Microsoft 365 solutions; provide guidance on scalability, performance, and security.
- Develop SharePoint and Word Press solutions: SPFx web‑parts, Power Automate flows, Power Apps, Power Shell scripts, theme customization, plugin management, and administration.
- Write and execute automated test cases; perform integration, regression, and performance testing across all platforms.
- Implement controlled release and deployment pipelines (CI/CD) for web, SharePoint, and Word Press systems.
- Maintain hosting environments: configure databases, backup, security certificates, user accounts, and perform regular maintenance.
- Collaborate with designers and stakeholders to deliver intuitive user interfaces; apply UX and accessibility principles.
- Lead technology innovation, monitor emerging tools, assess adoption opportunities, and advise on digital direction.
- Provide technical leadership, mentor junior staff, and oversee code quality and project management for small to medium projects.
- Ensure compliance with GDPR, accessibility, and institutional security standards.
- Support the University’s sustainability agenda through efficient resource use.
- Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion and maintain supplier, risk and sustainability management.
- Degree level or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related discipline.
- Extensive full‑stack web and digital development experience.
- Strong SharePoint (Modern & Classic) design and administration expertise.
- Proven Word Press hosting configuration, theme, and plugin management.
- Experience with Azure, Dev Ops pipelines, Git, CI/CD, and automated testing.
- Front‑end proficiency:
React, Type Script, HTML5, CSS, accessibility compliance. - Back‑end: .NET Core, RESTful API design, microservices, SQL Server optimisation.
- Integration:
Microsoft Graph, Power Automate, Power Apps, Power Shell. - Excellent communication, teamwork, mentorship, and stakeholder engagement skill.
- Analytical problem‑solving and ability to propose sustainable solutions.
- Experience in Agile delivery and project management.
- Knowledge of the Equality Act 2010 and commitment to equality and diversity.
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
