About the Department

Our department operates 24 hours, 7 day service performing a wide range of paediatric investigations, in addition to supporting regional services in paediatric medicine and surgery. This includes a busy Emergency Department, a large paediatric Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac and Liver surgery and a Bone Marrow Transplant centre. The work is interesting and varied and the department encourages and supports career development.

The department also supports out of hours service provision.

Position Overview

Blood Sciences Department at Birmingham Children’s Hospital is looking to recruit a Band 5/6 Biomedical Scientist with Chemistry experience. Appointment to Band 6 will require the post holder to have completed a Specialist IBMS Portfolio (Band 5 would be considered with the view to progressing on completion of the portfolio). We will consider applications from candidates HCPC registered only who have relevant lab experience and post registration experience in a UK Pathology department as essential.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain required professional standards and up‑to‑date knowledge of Chemistry and current working practices.
  • Rotate through the Chemistry and Research & Development sections working as part of the team to contribute to the provision and further development of a high quality diagnostic service.
  • Participate in the 24/7 out of hours service provision.
  • Covers both Children’s and Women’s Hospitals.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience of working in Chemistry.
  • HCPC registration.
  • Completed Specialist IBMS Portfolio for Band 6 (Band 5 considered with view to progression).
