Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (BSMHFT) invite applications for a permanent role at Reaside Clinic, Rubery, Birmingham – a 92‑bed medium secure inpatient service for adult males with severe mental health problems and a history of violence.
We are seeking enthusiastic, innovative and resilient professionals to join our expanding Secure Care and Offender Health Services (SCOH).
This role will involve working within a multidisciplinary clinical team to deliver formulation‑driven psychological treatment aligned with Divisional and Trust objectives. You will provide specialist psychological perspectives on service‑user recovery, contribute to the Divisional Psychological Therapies strategy, liaise with stakeholders, and help implement responsive strategies for forensic service challenges.
Main duties of the jobThe role encompasses research, service development, training, evaluation and line management responsibilities. We will support your professional development and tailor opportunities to your areas of interest.

Person Specification Qualifications- Satisfactory completion of a British Psychological Society accredited Doctoral Level postgraduate professional training course in clinical psychology (Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent).
- Graduate Basis for Registration following an honours degree in psychology accredited by the British Psychological Society, or via the Society’s qualifying examination or conversion course.
- Post‑doctoral training in one or more specialist areas of psychological practice or therapy.
- At least 4 years of post‑qualification experience as a registered practitioner psychologist, including a minimum of 2 years at the Senior (highly specialist) level.
- Experience of specialist assessment and individual/group treatment across primary, secondary, specialist care and inpatient/residential, outpatient and community settings.
- Experience with a wide variety of clients across all ages and presenting problems of clinical complexity and severity.
- Formal training in supervision, enabling independent supervision of clinical psychology trainees in line with local university criteria.
- Application of clinical forensic psychology in diverse cultural contexts.
- Experience treating ‘difficult to treat’ or ‘hard to reach’ groups.
- Experience in safeguarding and risk management across agencies, including appropriate escalation.
- Consultation and advice skills from a psychological perspective to multidisciplinary and non‑professional groups.
- Expertise in formulation and delivery of specialist psychological therapies and interventions for highly complex problems, with fidelity to evidence‑based practice.
- In‑depth knowledge of information governance legislation and inter‑agency information sharing.
- Team player with demonstrable ability to meet team and organisational objectives.
- Capacity to tolerate frustration, change and high demand, working effectively under pressure.
- Ability to accept and utilize supervision effectively.
- Understanding of clinical governance and application of mechanisms to maintain and improve clinical standards.
