The Harborne Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK, is a state‑of‑the‑art £100 million, purpose‑built 50‑bed multi‑speciality private hospital. Situated on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham campus, we benefit from exceptional clinical infrastructure, advanced equipment and highly skilled multidisciplinary teams who deliver full clinical pathways across a wide range of specialties, including Cardiology, Cancer and Complex Surgery.

We are now seeking a dedicated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our 12‑bedded multi‑speciality surgical ward, caring for patients undergoing procedures in GI, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Breast, Spinal, Liver and other surgical specialties. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that delivers outstanding patient care within a modern, supportive and clinically rich environment.

As a Healthcare Assistant on our surgical ward, you will play a vital role in supporting patients throughout their inpatient stay. Your responsibilities will include providing high‑quality personal care, assisting patients with daily activities such as washing, dressing, mobility and nutrition, and ensuring they feel safe, comfortable and supported at all times.

You will monitor and record observations under the supervision of registered nurses, support with preparing patients for surgery and recovery, maintain a clean and safe ward environment, assist with equipment and stock management, and contribute to the smooth running of the ward by responding promptly to patient needs.

You will also work closely with the nursing team to ensure that care plans are followed, patient dignity is upheld and communication with patients and their families is always warm, respectful and reassuring.

At HCA UK, we care about what you care about. We care that you want to deliver exceptional patient care. We care that you want a career you can feel proud of. We care that you want working conditions that support your wellbeing. Let us care for you and your career, the same way you care for others.

What you’ll bring
  • Acute hospital experience gained within the NHS or private healthcare sector
  • A recognised Healthcare Certificate or equivalent care qualification
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a fast‑paced surgical environment
  • Confidence in undertaking clinical observations accurately and safely
  • Competence in supporting patients with mobility and manual handling using safe techniques
  • A compassionate, patient‑centred approach with the ability to maintain dignity and respect at all times
  • A positive attitude, willingness to learn and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
