UHB are recruiting a Band 7 Critical Care Nurse who has recent experience working within a Paediatric critical care environment to clinically lead and collaboratively manage the Paediatric Critical Care service at University Hospitals Birmingham.

University Hospitals Birmingham have a large Paediatric service run by a dynamic, talented multi-professional team who deliver high quality, compassionate care to the local community and beyond.

We have a 6 bedded Level 2 HDU at Heartlands Hospital and an HDU stabilisation bed at Good Hope hospital. Our team work across both sites to provide HDU care to children who are acutely or chronically unwell. We strive to provide a positive patient experience in a safe environment for all our children and we actively promote a family-centred care approach in the delivery of care.

The successful candidate will work 23 hours per week, in a 75% clinical and 25% managerial role working alongside an experienced full-time Paediatric Clinical Care lead nurse. Most shifts will be based at Good Hope Hospital but rotation to Heartlands is included. Clinical shifts will be 11.5 hours.

You will need to be an organised, enthusiastic individual with excellent communication and inspirational leadership skills, alongside having the passion and ability to deliver high quality critical care to a diverse population. You will act as a role model for the nursing team across the Paediatric services, promoting a positive attitude and motivating staff members to deliver compassionate care whilst developing themselves professionally.

You will join an established senior nursing team who will support you to develop professionally. You will work alongside them to manage children's services on a day to day basis, utilising your paediatric expertise, critical thinking skills and ensuring performance and standards are monitored.

Operational management duties include maintaining a safe, clean environment, monitoring and improving ward and departmental performance, budget control, clinical governance and supporting staff wellbeing, training and providing pastoral care. The post holder is professionally accountable for the standards of clinical care delivered within their ward environment, they will undertake and supervise clinical practice, audit, research and participate in teaching to establish, monitor and continually improve the quality of the patient experience.

Qualifications Essential

• Registered Nurse on NMC register
• Critical Care Qualification with Paediatric Experience
• EPALS/ APLS

Desirable

• Health care management / Leadership Qualification

Experience Essential

• Professional Portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
• Substantial relevant and recent clinical experience within a complex health care setting or Acute NHS setting working as a deputy Manager Band 6 position including the supervision and education of junior staff/students.
• Can demonstrate understanding / experience / in practice based supervision / assessment as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
• Demonstrable current, recent experience of team leadership and management within the healthcare setting.
• Demonstrable understanding of the management responsibility for pay and non-pay resources associated with the clinical service.
