If so, we are delighted to be able to offer this opportunity to join our children's community service. This is a community post across the large city of Birmingham, with a caseload of children and young people with neurological and developmental conditions. The work will primarily involve a combination of working at Special School, Mainstream school and clinic based assessments, delivering intervention in the form of Packages of Care.

The post holder will work closely with the child, family and other professionals involved in their care. Candidates will also have responsibility for supervision of designated staff.

Main duties of the job

To manage a defined caseload of children with a variety of conditions, including neurological disabilities, functional difficulties and neuromuscular difficulties. Responsible for the assessment and ongoing therapeutic management of children in community and special school settings which may include designated schools, nurseries and community clinics. Competently assess and deliver PT programmes to children in the service and accountable for own clinical work and to nominated supervisor.

Carry out assessments independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, provide advice and guidance for families, carers and multidisciplinary team, including Health, Education and Social Care.

Job responsibilities
  • Responsible for a clinical caseload within the special school; monitor own workload/treatment methods to maintain high professional standards.
  • Advise Professional Lead for Physiotherapy / Service Clinical Manager of related issues as appropriate.
  • Professionally accountable for all aspects of own work, including management of children on the caseload.
  • Assess and reassess the needs of the child, analysing and interpreting information gathered to contribute to diagnosis and formulate a treatment plan.
  • Provide care plans to meet goals and evaluate effectiveness of interventions using appropriate outcome measures, making necessary modifications.
  • Develop intervention packages for one‑to‑one sessions, delivered by physiotherapist or physiotherapy assistant.
  • Supervise PT students on practice placement.
Person Specification Essential Experience
  • Relevant experience in a physiotherapy setting.
  • Evidence of application of the PT process during practice placement in paediatrics and/or neurology and/or community.
Essential Skills / Knowledge
  • Passionate about working with children.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in a manner appropriate to a variety of parties.
  • Ability to generate written communication, relevant, concise, accurate and legible.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the needs of individuals from minority groups.
