Triage Midwife

Are you a Band 6 Midwife looking for an exciting change? We are looking for experienced midwives to join our expanding maternity family. It is a fantastic time to be part of the new journey here at Birmingham Women’s Hospital.

Provision of seamless care and wellbeing for all women and birthing people is at the forefront of our practice. Our midwives strive to provide holistic, evidence‑based, personalised maternity care.

As a Band 6 Midwife you will be part of a flexible rotation pattern that includes Maternity Triage, the Delivery Suite, and, if requested, inpatient wards. The time spent in each area can be tailored to you. Newly qualified midwives can be supported through our Preceptorship Programme, provided they have a current NMC pin.

We require a current NMC pin; please do not apply if you have not obtained one.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical care within the maternity unit as a Rotational Band 6 Midwife.
  • Participate in flexible rotation patterns across Maternity Triage, Delivery Suite and inpatient wards.
  • Support newly qualified midwives through the Preceptorship Programme.
  • Contribute to continuous service improvement initiatives and drive changes within the department.
  • Maintain professional registration and complete mandatory training as required.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Registered Midwife – BSc or equivalent degree.
  • Evidence of professional progression and NMC registration.
Knowledge & Nature of Experience
  • Completion of Band 5 preceptorship programme.
  • Effective internet and IT skills.
  • IV drug administration, epidural management, CTG interpretation.
  • Awareness of research related to midwifery practice.
  • Positive attitude to change and initiative.
  • Cannulation and suturing skills.
Analytical and Judgement Skills
  • Confident and competent midwife practitioner.
Professional / Managerial / Specialist Knowledge
  • Commitment to professional development.
  • Facilitator and educator skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Team working and supportive working style.
  • Knowledge of equal opportunities policy.
  • Willingness to complete mandatory training.
  • Proficiency with nursing/midwifery information systems and EPR.

£38,682 to £46,580 per annum, pro‑rated.
