An exciting opportunity to be part of a national enforcement agency has arisen within Birmingham City Councils Illegal Money Lending Team (IMLT). As part of the councils Trading Standards Department, the IMLT investigates unlicensed money lenders (Loan Sharks). Administered in Birmingham, the team operates on an agile and flexible basis across the UK and is funded by Central Government. The team work closely with other Local Authorities, the Police, and other agencies.

The IMLT have two enforcement teams and an intelligence department made up of specialist investigators. The post of Deputy Operations Manager will sit within one of the enforcement teams. Due to the nature of this role, working outside of regular hours and travel across the UK will be required that will involve overnight accommodation as required.

What you’ll do
  • Deputise in the absence of the Operations Manager in all operational requirements (excluding the authorising of charging suspects) and to conduct complex criminal investigations and enforce delegated legislation as required
  • Ensure all operational demands are met and provide support / guidance to officers within the team / service.
About you

You will have a full driving licence with experience of:

  • Experience with in an enforcement role
  • Leading team of investigators and directing the course of investigations
  • Enforcement of legislation and interpretation of relevant criminal investigation legislation including CPIA (Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act)
  • Conducting complex investigations in specialist areas of criminal investigations
  • Interviewing suspects in accordance with PACE
  • Giving evidence in Court
  • Writing statements and reports to a high standard
  • Working within a fast-paced environment
  • Operating for periods of time with minimal supervision
  • A positive approach to problem solving with sound decision making
