Job Summary

Senior Expense Planning Analyst – a specialist insurance company Beazley is seeking. The role manages how the company’s decisions are reflected in the expense base for the current and next year, with a medium‑term horizon, working closely with a wide range of business stakeholders. Reporting to the Expense Planning Lead, this role is strategic and operational, optimizing the way Beazley’s decisions are understood and realised through the expense base and processes around delivering a planned expense ratio.

The role involves understanding current and future requirements of Beazley, ensuring these are incorporated into the expense base, defining controls and analytics to explain results, and driving efficiencies.

Key Activities & Areas of Responsibility

  • Lead and develop the team as required, with a focus on delivery and governance to provide best‑in‑class service. Ensure all employees have the knowledge and skills necessary to perform effectively. Work with them to provide effective training and coaching to aid future career progression.
  • Act as the senior subject matter expert for expense planning methods, modelling principles, and planning governance.
  • Represent the Expense Planning workstream in forums as required.
Provide Direct Support to Decision Makers
  • Build strong relationships with executives and business unit leaders to understand decisions/initiatives and translate these into expense plans. Work alongside peers to define the expected outcome from a given planning window.
  • Enable rapid interpretation, updates and support via a continuous feedback loop with all stakeholders.
  • Effectively communicate to stakeholders using visuals and storytelling techniques.
  • Provide continuous coaching to stakeholders, helping them understand how Expense Accounting & Financial Performance analyses data and arrive at insight (GAAP output and expense ratios), allowing them to apply it consistently in their decision‑making processes.
  • Challenge stakeholders’ assumptions to ensure they are robust, commercially sound, reduce bias and introduce a finance perspective.
  • Monitor leading indicators to identify operational performance gaps, drive action or provide alternative approaches.
Provide Financial Insight across the Expense Accounting Arena
  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive expense planning process aligned with Beazley’s overall objectives (GAAP, Platform & YOA).
  • Lead the SBF expense preparation process as part of the Lloyds annual submission, ensuring it accurately reflects expectations and group requirements/structure. Work closely with the London Market team to ensure analysis and outputs are transparent and of high quality.
  • Collaborate with the Group Planning Team to develop and maintain forecast expenses within the 5‑year MTP model, ensuring transparency and validation of assumptions, integrity of model data and robustness of outputs.
  • Drive the connected planning agenda, identifying opportunities to integrate planning across all activities, leading to joined‑up outputs, reporting efficiencies and insightful analysis to support decision making.
  • Ensure the team contributes expert Expense (planning) insight & commentary across key company‑wide reporting, including but not limited to group reporting, regulatory reporting, expense reporting and productivity metrics.
  • Lead the delivery of expense planning requirements, ensuring fit‑for‑purpose reporting that is right‑first‑time and of high quality. Provide insightful MI and Risk & Opportunities exhibits.
