Assistant Accountant – 6 Months – Theale - £35,000 - £38,000 per annum - Hybrid

This is a 6-month fixed-term contract for an Assistant Accountant to support the finance team across financial operations, reporting and systems development. The role involves both hands‑on processing and contributing to wider month‑end, year‑end, and budgeting activities.

• Supporting the implementation of a new payroll and finance system
• Preparing and reviewing purchase orders and resolving queries
• Reconciling balance sheets and fixed assets
• Assisting with month‑end and year‑end closing tasks and reporting
• Processing weekly payment runs and uploading BACS files
• Maintaining and supplier records
• Handling expenses and mileage claims, including procurement card reconciliation
• Posting journals and assisting with budget monitoring and reforecasts
• Supporting pension scheme accounting and related reporting
• Working flexibly and independently to meet departmental objectives

You will be part-qualified or hold a relevant finance degree, with strong Excel skills and experience in financial operations, ideally within the public sector. A confident communicator with an eye for detail, you will be comfortable working independently and collaboratively. Experience with finance systems and knowledge of payroll or pensions would be advantageous.
