About the role
We’re seeking a skilled Senior Manager Risk Steward who has a strong understanding of financial crime and Wealth and Personal Banking (WPB) products offered to HSBC UK’s retail and Private Bank (PB) customers.
Our Risk and Compliance function in the Second Line of Defence (2
LOD) has a critical role to play in supporting, challenging and advising across all areas of the business. We focus on creating an environment that encourages our people to speak up and do the right thing, as well as protecting our customers, the organisation and the integrity of the financial markets in which we operate.
As a Senior Manager, you’ll be an integral part of the Risk & Compliance team responsible for providing financial crime guidance and advice to colleagues on financial crime matters involving WPB products, advising on, supporting and overseeing the implementation of financial crime controls and risk management activities in compliance with HSBC UK’s regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Responsibilities- Playing a key role in assessing the FC risks arising within the products offered by WPB to its Personal Banking, Premier and PB customers.
- Acting as SME, developing subject matter guidance where appropriate, for key areas of FC regulation, related guidance and industry best practice as well as interpretation and application of the Global FC Policy and supporting appendices, the UK FC Policy and the Line of Business Procedures.

LOD when risks, issues and breaches arise, supporting completion of timely and appropriate risk management actions and escalating concerns and emerging issues. - Conducting Financial Crime risk assessments and evaluating control design against applicable regulatory obligations relative to WPB UK’s business.
- Advising on operational controls and contributing to change initiatives aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of Financial Crime risk management.
- Assessing the effectiveness of Financial Crime activities undertaken by a third party (internally or externally) related to WPB’s products, to assess whether risks are being managed appropriately and in accordance with relevant regulation.
- Building strong stakeholder relations with WPB First Line of Defence (1
LOD) teams. - Developing and maintaining a good understanding of the WPB products, channels and business that support our customers.
- Representing Financial Crime at relevant governance meetings.
- Collaborating with stakeholders (across all Lines of Defence) to strengthen Financial Crime monitoring and reporting capabilities.
- Assessing and advising 1
LOD on applicability and potential impact of regulatory developments. - Providing clear direction, inclusive leadership and support to the FC WPB Product team to deliver the bank’s objectives and good outcomes for our customers and the bank, in compliance with our regulatory requirements.
- Strong experience and understanding of Financial Crime risks and control framework and an ability to analyse and interpret regulatory requirements and expectations and clearly articulate implications for the business and its products. Strong Fraud knowledge would be beneficial.
- A strong understanding of products and services offered to private banking customers is preferred.
- Sound knowledge of the UK regulatory environment including but not limited to:
- Money Laundering Regulations
- Payment Services Regulations
- FCA Handbook
- Conduct related regulations such as Consumer Duty and their impact on how financial crime risk is managed
- Experience working with all or some of the following areas: payments infrastructure, payments products and services, payment transparency, digital channels, products and services offered to private banking customers.
- An ability to analyse control effectiveness, identify gaps and recommend remediation actions.
- An ability to manage competing stakeholder priorities.
- Ability to lead a team of professionals, set clear objectives, support development and foster an inclusive and collaborative culture.
