Overview

Associate Director - Electrical (Building Services / MEP Consultancy)

Salary:
Up to £90,000 (DOE)

Location:

Birmingham | Hybrid Working (3 days office / 2 days home)

An established UK-wide engineering consultancy with multiple offices is seeking an Associate Director - Electrical to join and help lead a growing MEP team in Birmingham.

This is a key strategic hire, working closely alongside a mechanically biased Director, with the opportunity to play a major role in both technical delivery and team leadership, while helping shape the future direction of the electrical discipline within the office.

The position would suit an experienced Associate or Principal Electrical Engineer ready to step into a senior leadership role with clear progression and influence within a well-respected consultancy.

The Role

You will act as the senior electrical lead within a multidisciplinary building services team, supporting the Director across project delivery, team development, and client engagement.

  • Leading electrical design delivery on complex building services projects
  • Supporting the Director in managing and developing the local MEP team
  • Acting as a client-facing technical lead across key accounts
  • Mentoring engineers and graduates within the team
  • Helping shape the growth of the electrical capability within the office
  • Supporting project delivery across multiple sectors

While the role includes leadership and client exposure, there is no immediate expectation to generate new business, allowing you to focus primarily on delivery and team development.

Projects & Work

The consultancy works across a wide range of sectors, with a strong focus on:

  • Residential
  • Healthcare
  • Higher Education

The majority of projects are new-build developments, typically delivered through to RIBA Stage 4a, with very limited survey or facilities-management style work.

The team is currently involved in several large-scale developments and regional masterplans, alongside a steady stream of local projects with long-standing clients.

The Team

You will join a growing Birmingham MEP team currently consisting of a small but expanding group of engineers. The Director currently balances project delivery, team oversight and business development, with this hire intended to strengthen the leadership structure and support the continued growth of the office.

The business has built a reputation for being technically strong while maintaining a genuinely social and supportive culture.

The Birmingham leadership team is particularly active in industry networking and charity initiatives, with regular opportunities to get involved in social events, CSR programmes and community fundraising activities.

Salary & Benefits
  • Up to £90,000 salary (depending on experience)
  • Hybrid working (3 days office / 2 days home)
  • 35-hour working week with flexible start/finish times
  • Paid overtime available
  • 24 days holiday + birthday off, with option to exchange bank holidays
  • Clear long-term leadership progression
Who This Role Would Suit
  • Experienced Associate or Principal Electrical Engineer within Building Services
  • Strong technical background in electrical building services design
  • Comfortable leading projects and mentoring engineers
  • Confident working in a client-facing capacity

If you re looking for a senior leadership role within a growing consultancy, with real influence over project delivery and team development, this opportunity offers strong long-term potential within a well-established business.
