Apprenticeship Level 3 - Water - Flood Risk Management

Our Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeships provide a unique opportunity to study industry‑recognised qualifications while earning a competitive salary. You will study with a training provider, such as a college, and combine this experience with real responsibilities in the workplace. Training may take place on a day‑or‑block‑release basis or through distance learning, depending on the course you enrol in. A dedicated mentor will guide you through your personal and professional development.

Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeships last two to three years, during which you will attain both a professional and academic qualification to further your career. Apprentices are employed on a permanent basis, so you will continue to progress with Arup once the course is completed.

You will work with a team of engineers and other professionals to deliver flood‑risk schemes from strategy and option‑steering to design of stormwater and flood‑risk infrastructure. Your projects may include drainage design, flood‑risk assessment, hydrology, hydraulic modelling, flood defence schemes, dams, and reservoirs. You may also be involved in computer modelling, drawing, information modelling, data analysis, and coding.

In addition, you will help us deliver professional services for a range of high‑profile clients, including the Environment Agency. As part of the apprenticeship, you will study toward a Level 3 qualification in Civil Engineering with one of our local partner colleges.

• Five or more GCSEs at grade C/4/5 or above, including Maths (Grade B/5/6 or above), English and Science, or equivalent.

You should be able to start this opportunity in September 2026.
