Senior Civil Design Engineer

Our client, a leader in power utilities, power distribution, and energy sectors, is currently seeking a Senior Civil Design Engineer to join their team in Birmingham or Glasgow, UK. This permanent role focuses on leading civil engineering design projects within the power transmission and distribution industry, ensuring high standards and compliance with industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead civil and structural engineering design delivery for UK Power Transmission & Distribution projects from concept through detailed design and construction support.
Act as senior technical authority, ensuring compliance with client requirements, industry standards, codes, and best practice.
Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, working closely with project managers, clients, vendors, and global engineering offices.
Oversee preparation and review of technical deliverables, including specifications, studies, calculations, drawings, and vendor documentation.
Control project scope, programme, budgets, resourcing, and change management to ensure successful project outcomes.
Lead QA/QC processes and provide construction-stage technical support, including site inspections and resolution of design issues.
Build and maintain strong client relationships, supporting customer satisfaction, repeat work, and new business opportunities.
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers, contributing to the development and growth of the civil engineering practice.

Essential:

Minimum of 7 years experience within Civil Design Engineering

Experience with in the heavy regulated sectors such as Power, Renewables, Rail or Water / Wastewater
Knowledge of UK Environmental and Waste Management legislation, and CDM Regulations
Strong contract management skills and familiarity with NEC family of contracts.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including MS Project.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, persuasion, and negotiation skills.
A relevant Health & Safety qualification is required.
Uderstanding of UK Health & Safety legislation related to design and construction in the electricity supply industry.

Desirable:

Power Transmission and Distribution experience particually on Substation builds
10+ years expeience within Civil Design Engineering across Power, Renewables, Rail or Water / Wastewater sectors
Chartered Civil Engineering and a member of the ICE

Benefits:

Basic salary ranging from £50,000 - £65,000 per annum
£13k to £17k Annual Bonus
