Job summaryWe are looking for a Specialist Geotechnical Engineer to join NHBC Commercial Services, working as part of a nationwide team who offer early engagement technical services to customers looking to derisk land. In this role, you’ll assess site investigation reports, geotechnical and earthworks proposals, and verification information to assist customers to achieve compliance against NHBC Land Quality Standards. You’ll also provide expert technical advice across the business, helping to manage risk and support high‑quality, compliant development from early land appraisal through to construction and beyond.
Responsibilities- Assessing geotechnical evidence and technical reports to determine the suitability of the proposals, approach or works against NHBC Standards and industry guidelines.
- Working in collaboration with geoenvironmental specialists, appraise remediation, earthworks, and ground improvement strategies that relate to complex land schemes.
- Providing clear, pragmatic technical feedback to customers, consultants, and internal teams.
- Preparing technical reports detailing the outcome of our reviews and delivering well‑reasoned responses and professional opinions.
- Undertaking site visits to view works and attending meetings to explain and support technical decisions.
- Engaging with customers to secure work and prepare fee proposals and scope.
- Facilitation of payments, generating new leads, and preparing documents, presentations and marketing materials towards winning new work.
- Managing your own workload and contributing to strong customer relationships.
- Supporting knowledge sharing, training, and continuous improvement across the team.
- Experience in geotechnical engineering, site investigations and foundation design.
- Experience working on brownfield or complex ground conditions.
- Strong understanding of UK soils, geotechnical design, ground improvements, and remediation techniques.
- Ability to make sound, risk‑based technical decisions and communicate technical information clearly.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Engineering Geologist (CGeol) with a relevant professional institution, ideally the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Geological Society of London or a relevant equivalent. Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
