Role Overview

The QHSE Systems Lead is accountable for the comprehensive oversight of all QHSE systems and the assurance of compliance with applicable quality, health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and standards. This integrated role requires a strategic thinker capable of aligning production activity with management system protocols, ensuring operational excellence and regulatory adherence across all functions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Application Essential
  • Experience working with an IATF
    16949 QMS
  • Experience of running a QHSE management system.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Commitment to flexibility when required.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
Preferred
  • Experience developing and implementing a IATF 16949 QMS
  • Relevant H&S Qualification (IOSH Managing Safety or NEBOSH)
  • IATF Internal or Lead Auditor Trained
Key Responsibilities Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)
  • Compliance with all statutory health and safety regulations.
  • Investigation and resolution of accidents and near-miss incidents.
  • Promotion of continuous improvement in safety practices.
  • Creation and maintenance of COSHH assessments for all substances.
  • Monitoring of utility usage including gas and electricity.
  • Facility inspections and identification of hazards.
  • Management of the company’s HSE system and documentation.
  • Oversight of HSE policies, procedures, and emergency preparedness plans.
  • Coordination of evacuation drills and documentation.
  • Assessment and improvement of workplace control measures.
  • Supplier certification and safety evaluation.
  • Implementation of internal audits and risk assessments.
  • Maintenance of compliance with ISO 45001 and 14001 standards.
  • Development and monitoring of safety and environmental KPIs.
  • Leading HSE audit programs and external compliance checks.
  • Root cause analysis and documentation of incidents using 8D methodology.
  • Driving initiatives toward Net Zero and sustainability goals.
  • Oversight of all HSE documentation and record-keeping.
  • Updating technical documents in response to HSE inputs.
  • Chairing H&S committee meetings and safety walk-throughs.
  • Assist with management of the ECR log and training matrix.
  • Communication of HSE performance data to employees.
  • Maintaining appropriate employee noticeboards with updated QHSE materials.
Quality
  • Lead the implementation of an IATF 16949 quality management system, ensuring integration with existing ISO 9001 framework.
  • Maintain and continually improve the current ISO 9001 QMS, ensuring compliance with customer, legal, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and control documented procedures, process plans, work instructions, and quality manuals to align with IATF and ISO requirements.
  • Manage our internal audit programme: plan, conduct, and report audits for QMS, IATF 16949, and ISO standards.
  • Coordinate third-party certification and surveillance audits, ensuring corrective actions are implemented effectively.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective action processes for non-conformances (NCRs).
  • Continue development and oversee supplier quality management system.
  • Monitor and report on quality KPIs (scrap, rework, customer complaints, audit findings) to management.
  • Facilitate Management Review Meetings, ensuring effective communication of quality system performance to leadership.
  • Champion continuous improvement projects (e.g. problem solving, mistake proofing, SPC) to improve manufacturing processes.
