Crane Engineer at EP Group

EP Group is an award‑winning, global packaging manufacturer with production facilities across Europe and Southeast Asia. Our global headquarters in Birmingham is home to our dedicated paper manufacturing division, providing a wide range of food packaging products for the likes of McDonald’s, Amazon, Marks & Spencer and Greggs.

We are now seeking a Crane Engineer to be based on site in Birmingham. The role will provide maintenance and recovery of 33M narrow aisle cranes and their associated conveyor systems. The engineer will be an expert at managing their own workloads, reacting to machine down time and implementing PPM systems.

Key Responsibilities – Crane Engineer
  • Maintenance, servicing and overhauling of highbay cranes including mechanical breakdowns such as drive replacements, bearings, gearing, roller systems
  • Manage electrical repairs and installations including new installations and existing equipment upgrades to ensure equipment is up to industry standards.
  • Work closely with warehouse supervisors and management team to supply the agreed level of service to existing clients.
  • Attend breakdowns within agreed SLAs to ensure timely resolution and avoid any delays to the customer.
  • Change and program inverters and other control systems.
  • Keep PPMs complete to a high standard and up to date.
Key Requirements – Crane Engineer
  • A minimum of 5 years previous experience working in ASRS and FMCG environment both in electrical and mechanical work, preferably with an indentured apprenticeship history.
  • City & Guilds Level 2 or 3 NVQ Diploma or Extended Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • PLC experience highly desirable e.g. Siemens.
  • Mechanically biased but with some electrical knowledge.
  • Excellent technical knowledge.
  • The ability to prioritise and plan effectively.
  • A good level of computer literacy.
  • Good commercial awareness.
  • The ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Good problem‑solving skills and creative approach for new ideas.
  • Very good time‑management skills and a high work ethic.
  • Ability to work at height in the Highbay ASRS Crane Systems.
  • Understanding of Warehouse management system.
  • Excellent communication and team‑working skills.
